The Tropical Pride Community Awards are to acknowledge and highlight the support, dedication, hard work and the outstanding achievements made by LGBT people and our supporters no matter how big or small in North Queensland. They also provide the opportunity to publicly show appreciation for those who in many ways positively support the needs and issues of the LGBT community.

The event will also feature the launch of the report on "Out on the Reef", a piece of qualitative research into the experiences of gay men and their subcultures in Cairns. This report is a follow-up to an initial study conducted in 2000, with a view to revisiting and documenting their experiences now, a decade later.

In addition to the evening's two main awards presented by Destiny, there will also be the presentation of Healthy Communities President's Silver Award for Volunteering, a lovely dinner prepared by the new Turtle Cove chef, entertainment from Hot N Wet Quintet (recently seen at Cabaret Q) and Mary Jane Carpenter, a blues singer and pianist from Brisbane. Turtle Cove has also offered a lucky ticket prize of a weekend for 2.
