The Highlight of the 2011 Tropical Pride Festival. Come and join in the fun of the day!
Usually drawing in over 2,000 people, the event is a family day full of food, frivolity, and fun, with diverse community stalls dotting the pathways and a wealth of talented performers across two stages, including the OutLoud LGBT Choir.
Events such as Gay Bingo and the dog show, are sure to be as entertaining as they have been in past years.

Cairns Tropical Pride Dog Show
Ampitheatre stage, Tank 3, @ 3pm
The Dog Show is undoubtedly a popular highlight of the Fair Day. This year, every dog is a winner and will take home a doggy bag! The categories for 2011 are:
1. Dandiest Dog – The best Looking male dog
2. Prettiest Bitch – The best looking female dog
3. Super Poofie Dog
4. Best Butch Dog
5. Best Lookey Likey – dog looks most like the owner or a celebrity
6. Best dressed Dog
There will be a rosette for the winner of each category, who will then all be in the running to win a trophy for overall
BEST in SHOW. Dogs may be entered into more than one category, but only winners of sections will be eligible for the BEST in SHOW.
Cairns Tropical Pride Dance Arena
Ampitheatre stage, Tank 3, 11am-3pm, 4pm-6pm
Let's go OUTSIDE - and feel the love out in the open. For the first time in Cairns Tropical Pride history, DJs will be playing music from the Amphitheatre Stage to let you keep on moving in the sunshine. A line-up of the best known DJs on the Cairns LGBT scene and an internationally renowned guest DJ will be playing an eclectic mix of gay pride anthems, club classics, and the latest remixes.
THE LINE-UP:
11am - 12noon - DJ Sonya: From her 90s debut at Rusty's to her longstanding residency at Club Trix, DJ Sonya, "The Goddess of The Box", is a pioneer DJ of the Cairns LGBT scene, renowned for her sets of gay anthems.
12noon - 1pm - DJ Ess: Musical maestro DJ Ess has been a key figure on the Cairns LGBT scene for the best part of 10 years, launching the Visions dance parties in the mid-noughties and playing a many “hands-up-in-the-air” anthem.
1pm - 2pm - Trent E: Relocating to Cairns from Melbourne in 2010, Trent E has fast become a local’s favourite, taking up residency at The Salt House each week where he delivers the perfect soundtrack to good times.
2pm - 3pm - DJ Been: A born and bred local who spent his 20s on the London gay indie scene, DJ Been plays a popular mix of current house, electro, and pop remixes as the resident DJ at the monthly Out! Cairns dance parties.
4pm - 6pm - Murray Hood (Oxford Hustlers):
As one of the Australia's most versatile and respected DJs, Murray has graced the decks at most major events and venues around Australia, including crowds of over 8000 in the main room at Sydney's infamous Mardi Gras Party. He's played alongside some of the biggest artists around the world like Freemasons, K-Klass, Katherine Ellis, Hex Hector, Olivia Newtown-John, Cyndi Lauper, Peyton, Mike Cruz, Vanessa Amorosi, Tina Cousins, Zoe Badwi, Wayne G ,and Eric Kupper. His sets are always full of energy and surprises with a crushing selection of house, trance, tribal, funky, electro, disco and progressive. In only a few years, he has proven himself to be one of Melbourne and Sydney's most popular and respected DJs on the club music scene. Murray has recently been busy in the studio producing and remixing, and has had success as part of the production duo Oxford Hustlers with Brett Austin, pushing out remixes for Inaya Day, Kimberly Davis, and Wynter Gordon. Their debut single featuring well-known dance diva Katherine Ellis, a cover of Sunscreem's anthemic "Love U More", was a massive club hit across the world in late 2010.
Cairns Tropical Pride Art Show
Tank 4, 10:30am - 6pm
Pride's Festival 3rd Annual Art Show will return, displaying paintings, drawings, mixed media, and photos, entered from people across the community. All artists are welcome to enter up to ten pieces of /artwork for an overall entry fee of only $20. There will be fantastic prizes awarded to the Best of Show, presented by a special guest judge, and a People’s Choice Award. To enter, download and complete the entry form.
This year will also see the return of the Postcard Art Show. Participation is free and open to all members of the community. Receive a small canvas 4”x6” (10cmx15cm) available from Qahc and Cairns Craft Centre and create a work of art: paint, draw, print, mixed media or even a photo as long it is within the 4”x6” canvas size. Fair Day Performers:
OutLoud Cairns Gay and Lesbian Choir - Onstage @ 11.00am and 1.00pm
From its first performance at the inaugural Cairns Tropical Pride Fair Day in 2006 with a group of only six, the OutLoud Choir has grown and been entfor the past four years. Initially under the direction of Cliff Anderson, the choir regularly entertained the Cairns community at events such asWorld Aids Day, Tropical Alternatives Film Festival and the Festival of the Knob. Now led by Dale Schultz, the group has made its first contribution to a CD, 'Songs for Queensland', featuring 13 of the State's choirs, with all the profits to be donated to the Premier's flood and cyclone relief effort. Their selection: 'I still call Australia Home', a song about our belonging to community and home, "no matter how far I roam."
OutLoud meets every Monday from 6 to 8pm at QAHC Base Camp and is open to all members of the LGBT community and their friends.
Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Choir - Onstage @ 11.00am and 1.00pm
Celebrating 14 years on the Brisbane Arts scene, this leading national LGBT choir has performed around Queensland and interstate, including Brisbane Pride Fair Days, the Brisbane Ekka, 2000 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, and the Sydney Opera House for the 2002 Gay Games. Led by Musical Director, Marina Aboody Thacker, this acapella choir draws its repertoire from the diverse cultures of Australia with songs about hope, acceptance and love.
Red Velvet - Onstage 12noon - 1pm
Cairns' hottest lounge band, featuring the sounds of a virtuosic 5-string electric violin/viola and bringing back the Golden Age to create a tango fusion mixed with neo-classical and lounge jazz. They will be joined by the Cairns Tango Dancers.
Hot N Wet Quintet - Onstage 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Seasoned musicians who perform with flair and finesse. Between them they have played every inhabited continent on
earth. The Hot N Wet Quintet will have your toes tapping, neurons firing and juices flowing - this is cabaret at its finest.
