Volunteers

Help get your festival up and running! A total of at least 38 volunteers are needed for the many varied tasks throughout the Cairns Tropical Pride Festival Fair Day on Sunday 28 August 2011, from 10:30am to 6pm at the Tanks Art Centre.

Volunteers are needed in 4 areas:

1. Welcoming Team: Meet and Greet:  12 volunteers (6 pairs) are needed to man the main gate. Each pair will work for 1 hour at a time, with the first pair starting at 10am and the last at 4pm. A welcoming smile and pleasant greeting will set the tone for the day. Programmes will be given out and an entry fee of $5 will be charged. As proof of paying everyone will be stamped on their wrist or hand as they will want to come out of the inner area to get to the food stalls. It is envisaged that most visitors will arrive within the first couple of hours so we may need to increase the number of volunteers on the gate on the day during this time.

2. The Set up  Team: 8-12 Volunteers are required from 7am to assist the stallholders set up their tents and decorate the entertainment area in Tank 5. Most stallholders should only need minor assistance. The entire site will need decorating and signs erected, and the entertainment areas will need chairs and tables placed in position.

3. The Dismantle Team: 6-10 volunteers are required from 5pm to clear the site. It is expected that this will be completed by 8pm.

4. The Information and maintenance Team: About 4 volunteers are required to patrol the site in pairs and answer any questions that visitors may ask, from 11am to approx. 4:30pm. They will keep the site tidy, making sure that the toilets are fully functional, dog bowls are filled with water, and generally make visitors feel welcome. People-friendly volunteers are encouraged to apply.

To volunteer, please contact the Volunteer coordinator Ian Byford c/o QAHC (phone 4041 5451 or email mquick@qahc.org.au) and indicate which of the 4 teams you would prefer to work in.
